Kanzeonji Zazen (seated meditaton) on Saturday Mornings

This past weekend, as I usually do, I served as Ino at Kanzeonji.
The Zendo is currently the Abbot's living room; this serves as a warm and familial practice that I highly recommend (though I may be a little prejudiced since this is my ordaining temple... but still I recommend sitting meditation where-ever you decide to attend).

The image is the myself and the Abbot (Rev. Ryugen Watanabe Osho) in front of the altar.
Below is a link to the website for schedules and more information.

Aikido event in San Diego

Here is links to an upcoming aikido event in San Diego with Dave Goldberg Sensei.
I remember Dave before he was a Sensei and we studied at Sunset Cliffs Aikido.
He went off to Japan and we did meet up there on evening as well.
I'm sure this will prove to be a great event.

Zenshuji Introduction to Meditation on Thursday Nights

Marugame Monzo

Though I really didn't intend to be a food critic. This blog was intended for dojo news, after all. But I did leave the name broad enough to include any s. California news for the Japanese Community.

After the Geffen at the Moca, in Little Tokyo Los Angeles, we ate at Marugame Monzo.

Udon, made fresh... Right before your eyes.

Of course for Udon, the soup is key too. But here too they did not disappoint.

Price was ok. Service was good considering lunch hour and limited seats. Well worth the wait, in any case, as far as I'm concerned.

LA Art Book Fair

In little Tokyo this weekend was the LA Art Book fair. Being a family of artists and book lovers, this was a great little Tokyo event for us.

The fair was at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA.

Artists are an interesting bunch of people, a lot of creativity to be seen. A pretty diverse presentation from vintage to modern. Publishers from across the country. Sexual enuendo and just strange and everything in between.

Ikebana in Los Angeles California usa

Ikebana in Los Angeles California usa

Ikebana is the art of flower arrangment. Japanese Flower arrangement is a wonderful practice. The process itself is a meditation for the individual, working with plants and nature. Then the product is shared with all who come near.

Feb. 8, 2014, 4 pm to 5:30 pm
SCREENING OF AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER
The final three episodes of Avatar is “Sozin's Comet.” It is a three-part series which is considered some of the best episodes of the series. We are going to show these three episodes so that everyone can enjoy them on a large screen. Plus, if you have never seen Avatar before, you will enjoy it. A mix of kung fu, anime, a wonderful story-line and a whole lot of fun. Plus, we may be joined by a special guest from the series. This event is FREE to the public.

This blog will be used to document and promote Budo and Geido Activities in Southern California.
Though I can't be everywhere at once, wherever I go I will bring information from the event to this blog.
Please feel free to help direct my efforts.
